Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II

This module is designed to equip learners with the essential knowledge, skills, and attitude required to competently perform Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) on carbon steel plates and pipes. It focuses on welding in various positions using both single and multiple pass techniques, preparing learners for real-world applications in structural, fabrication, and piping industries.

Learners will explore industry-standard welding practices, safety procedures, electrode selection, and proper welding techniques. The module includes hands-on training on overhead welding of groove joints and pipe welding in different positions such as 1G, 2G, 5G, and 6G. Mastery of these competencies is essential in becoming a qualified SMAW welder, capable of producing strong and quality welds under different conditions.

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • Weld plates in single pass groove joints in overhead positions

  • Weld plates in multiple pass groove joints in overhead positions 

  • Weld pipes in 1G, 2G, 5G, and 6G positions
